23’s a Lucky Number
With a 90 million-dollar contract with Nike, LeBron James swept in the new 2006-2007 playoff year with more amazing victories. The Cleveland Cavaliers, led by James, won their first sweep over the Washington Wizards with four straight victories. He set on to win more victories against the New Jersey Nets, advancing the team for the first time in fifteen years to the Eastern Conference Finals, and the Detroit Pistons, a victory which led them to play in the NBA Finals. Also, for the third time in a row, LeBron once again took part of the NBA All-Star game.
To be on par with the player’s outstanding performance, Nike released the Zoom LeBron 4 on the winter of 2006. With an “XXIII,” LeBron’s jersey number, designed on the front, this shoe once again captures the NBA star’s personality on-and-off the court. Like the rest of the Nike Zoom franchise, it still had the Zoom Air unit for comfortable wear and a carbon fiber shank for support. It had the general feel of a powerful and dominating shoe, just like how James was at court. Of course, it still retained the King James lion design — the tattoo LeBron has on right arm. The Zoom LeBron 4 also made use of foam technology to ensure perfect balance for the wearers and to make the shoe look nice and smooth under the court lights. Some of the available colorways are the white/Midnight Navy and the Black LeBrons.
Despite sporting a much heavier feel than previous Nike Air Zoom franchise shoes, the Zoom LeBron 4 is still a good pair for basketball players, and even for those who would want it for daily wear.

Pink colored athletic shoes seem to be popping up in record numbers these days. In particular, pink colored basketball shoes seem to be populating the sneaker landscape at an alarming rate. Long considered a women’s color, pink is now adorning many a basketball sneaker, male and female. There is a reason why. And it is a really great reason.
Kay Yow was a women’s college basketball coach at North Carolina State University who died of breast cancer in January 2009. She had battled cancer for more than two decades. As a tribute to her battle and her contributions to the game of basketball, several large athletic companies have produced pink colored apparel and shoes. These companies contribute some of the proceeds of the sale of these products to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a fund set up as a charitable organization to continue the fight against breast cancer.
Breast cancer awareness has always been represented by the color pink. And because Kay Yow dedicated her life to basketball, many of the large shoe companies are now producing many different styles of basketball sneakers in a pink colorway. Not only are they contributing to a great cause, but they are making it acceptable for males to wear pink on the basketball court.
Or, are they? I have never understood that fact that in our society a certain color determines a person’s gender. And in the case of basketball, a male’s toughness or athletic talent. If a man likes the color pink, why can’t he wear it on one of the shoes for basketball he owns? I don’t have a reason why he shouldn’t. But a lot of men do.I guess testosterone has a lot to do in determining what color you can or can not wear on the basketball court. To each his own.
Fortunately, those basketball players that are alright with pink have many options when it comes to purchasing quality signature sneakers. From Kobe Bryant shoes to Lebron James shoes to basketball shoes in general; hoopers have many “pink” options. Not only are they sporting nice kicks, they are contributing to a great cause.
Whether you love them or not, pink athletic shoes have been here awhile and are going to increase in numbers. Shoes for basketball have changed. In color, style, and performance. I, for one, love pink basketball shoes. In fact, I gotta go now. Over to an online Nike shoe retailer that is. There is a pink pair of Kobe’s with my name on it. I hope they have a size 10.
